To give driving lessons, the instructor needs to have a vocational aptitude certificate. There are five vocational aptitude certificates for the managing and teaching staff of driving schools.
• Certificate I provides access to the functions of driving school director and deputy driving school director.
• Certificate II provides access to the function of instructor responsible for the practical driving training of vehicles belonging to categories B and G.
• Certificate III provides access to the function of instructor responsible for the theoretical training.
• Certificate IV provides access to the function of instructor responsible for the practical driving training of vehicles belonging to categories AM, A1, A2 and A.
• Certificate V provides access to the function of instructor responsible for the practical driving training of vehicles belonging to categories B+E, C1, C1+E, C, C+E, D1, D1+E, D and D+E.
The certificates are delivered:
• either after passing the examinations referred to in chapter II and completing a period of in-service training referred to in chapter III;
• or in accordance with the law dated 12 February 2008 establishing a new general framework for the recognition of professional qualifications in the EU.
Requirements
If the beneficiary of the professional qualifications recognition cannot prove having the language skills required by article 25 of the law dated 12 February 2008 establishing a general framework for the recognition of professional qualifications in the EU, they have to take a language test to show they know one of Belgium's three official languages well enough to give driving lessons.
This test consists of an oral interview with the president of one of the three chamber presidents of the examination board referred to in article 34.
The president of the French-speaking chamber will judge about the knowledge of the French language.
The president of the Dutch-speaking chamber will judge about the knowledge of the Dutch language.
The president of the German-speaking chamber will judge about the knowledge of the German language.
The jury president will judge about the knowledge of their mother tongue.
The certificate remains valid as long as the requirements are met.
