By donating organs or tissue, you can save lives! On the website of the federal government, you will find the applicable guidelines and legal provisions.
Organ donation
Organ donation is very important. For some patients, it is the only hope for a cure. Whether or not to choose donation after your death is a choice that everyone has to make. The Belgian law of 13 June 1986 states that organs and tissue can be removed from any Belgian citizen, unless the deceased person has objected to this during his or her lifetime. Further information and an objection form can be found on the website of the Federal Public Service of Health.
Tissue donation
Human tissue and cells are increasingly used in transplants. They have great potential for cell therapy. These are mainly bone marrow, skin, cornea and cartilage. The same rules apply to tissue removal and transplantation as to organ donation.
