A move is a sensitive time in a consumer's life, as it involves a change of user at a gas and electricity supply point. To avoid a lot of worry, thinking about gas and electricity is just as important as taking other steps related to your change of address. It must become a reflex and the energy recovery document a familiar document to any consumer.
It is important to read the meters at your old and new addresses. This will save you a lot of worry and unpleasant surprises, such as paying for the consumption of a previous tenant!
When you leave your old address:
- Complete two copies of the energy recovery document (one for yourself, the other for the new tenant or the landlord).
- Both documents must be signed by you and the new occupant (the new tenant or landlord).
- Contact the electricity and/or natural gas supplier at your old address no later than seven days after your move so that they can issue a closing bill.
- If you wish to keep the same supply contract, it will continue at your new address without exception (call your supplier for more details).
- If you want to change supplier, you must sign a new supply contract for your new address (contact your new supplier, who will help you with this).
When you arrive at your new home:
- Complete two copies of the energy recovery document (one for yourself, the other for the new tenant or the landlord).
- Both documents must be signed by you and the new occupant (the new tenant or landlord).
- Contact the electricity and/or natural gas supplier at your old address no later than seven days after your move so that they can issue a closing bill.
- If you want, your supply contract at your old address will continue at your new address, without exception (call your supplier for more details).
- If you have chosen a new supplier, make sure you have signed a contract with them that takes effect on the date you move in.
- If you do not yet have an energy supplier, you must sign a contract with a supplier of your choice.
