The Brussels-Capital Region has a host of secondary schools, for all educational networks and languages. These also include a number of international schools.
Secondary education is compulsory. Every pupil is obliged to go to school until the age of 18. From the age of 16, you can follow part-time education.
Secondary education is subdivided into four orientations:
- General education (ASO)
- Technical education (TSO)
- Vocational education (BSO)
- Art education (KSO)
With these four educational orientations, you can continue to higher studies. In order to obtain a certificate of higher secondary education in vocational education, you will need to take an additional seventh year.
You can find more information about the orientations in secondary education on the website of the federal government. You can find more information about the structure of secondary education on the website of the Flemish Community or on the website of the French Community (only available in French).
