Nursery education and primary education together form basic education. Nursery education is intended for children from 2.5 to 6 years and is not compulsory. However it does contribute to the child's social development. Nursery education can sometimes bring problems or possible disabilities to light before a child goes to primary school, so it is advisable to send your child to nursery school.
On the Onderwijs & Vorming (Education & Training) website of the Flemish Community you can find more information about nursery education in Flanders. In Flanders, the learning objectives for nursery education are referred to as development objectives. You can consult them here.
