Nursery schools and primary schools follow a fixed calendar. Children generally attend school from Monday to Friday, and are free on Wednesday afternoons. They have holidays during the following periods:
- Christmas holidays: two weeks at the end of the year
- Easter holidays: two weeks around Easter
- Autumn holidays: one week around All Saints
- Spring holidays: one week at the start of spring
- Summer holidays: two months in July and August
