Working
As a foreign national, you can only work in Belgium if you have a valid work permit or if you are exempt from it. Under certain conditions, the Brussels-Capital Region grants foreign nationals the opportunity to work as a self-employed person or as an employee. For more information, go to the Brussels Economy and Employment website.
Language
If you wish to work at a Belgian company, it will be useful for you to speak and/or write French and/or Dutch. Various organisations and schools offer language courses. The website Commissioner.brussels (only available in English) will guide you.
Social security
To qualify for the reimbursement of medical expenses (after a waiting period), you need to register with a health insurance fund. The contributions to the Belgian social security system and the taxes will generally be paid by your employer. You can find all information about your rights as an employee in Belgium on the social security website.
